CHARTERED ARCHITECT . CHARTERED ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGIST
GRADE II LISTED EXTENSION . STRATFORD
The property is a Grade II listed building, originally a 17th-century farmhouse that was re-fronted in brick during the 19th century, with elements of the original timber framing still retained. The proposed extension required a thorough understanding of the existing structure and a highly sensitive approach to its alteration.
The brief called for the provision of a single additional bedroom together with a new sitting room. In order to minimise intervention to the historic fabric, a new oak staircase was introduced to access the bedroom and en-suite accommodation, which were carefully integrated within the exposed roof structure and served by newly formed dormer windows. Access to the sitting room was achieved through the creation of a single new opening, representing the only substantive alteration to the original building.
The resulting sitting room is generous in scale, offering open views across the South Warwickshire countryside. The clients expressed their satisfaction with the completed works, noting that the extension appeared to be entirely in keeping with the original construction of the house.
