The former village schoolhouse, constructed in the mid-19th century, was converted into a residential dwelling several years prior to our involvement. Following the arrival of the clients’ first child, additional accommodation was required; however, this needed to be achieved without compromising the character and integrity of the original building.

The external envelope was designed to closely reflect the existing architectural fabric, including the tall glazed windows to the northern elevation. Their formal and considered composition subtly conceals a more fluid and open internal arrangement.
