Smoking Shelter . Education
Changes to government legislation have required that most buildings are now smoke free. This has caused many establishments to look at the provision of external smoking shelters albeit usually of a proprietary construction. We were asked to provide a design for a local college of further education that incorporated shelter, but was also to be a meeting point that would become the only place on campus that would allow smoking. Smoking fumes are undesirable and need to be released at high level due to the surrounding buildings; therefore tall chimney vents were proposed above a timber framed structure that would have used the internal void to generate social spaces within.
