Bus Depot . Transport . Work in Progress

The site had been used for a great many years as a bus depot but the facilities had become tired and outdated. The existing collection of buildings were spread out in an ad-hoc manner which resulted in inefficient practices and wasted space on site. The brief sought to place all the accommodation, including vehicle maintenance, within one building. After the demolition of the existing buildings the improved layout would provide much needed parking for coaches and other vehicles. Alan C Riley Associates undertook a comprehensive study of the existing site and vehicle movements. They prepared several scenarios for the development that would also take account of the construction of the new building that would minimise hindrance to the operational requirements of the company which would continue to function during the construction period.

The new building will include an array of offices for all personnel, workshop with storage facilities for mechanical and body parts etc., meeting rooms, boardroom, visitor reception, staff rest room and fitness room specifically requested by the client for all personnel. Some of the studies undertaken by the practice to accompany the planning application included, Construction near Aerodromes, Flood Risk Assessment, Parking Statement, Planning Statement and Design and Access Statement.

Since obtaining permission the scheme illustrated below has been reduced in scale slightly due to budgetary requirements but will still provide a fine new building.
