NEW CLASSROOMS . ST JOSEPHS SCHOOL, NUNEATON
The project involved a straightforward alteration to create three small tutorial spaces within an existing underutilised area, while also providing flexibility for use as larger informal group settings when required. This represents the third project undertaken at the school.
Located adjacent to a pleasant courtyard, the design naturally benefits from good levels of daylight and ventilation. Careful consideration was given to the corridor environment, as the introduction of solid partition walls would have risked extending an already dim and unwelcoming circulation route. Instead, the corridor walls were designed in light oak with half-height glazing, with integrated bookcases incorporated into the lower section to provide both functionality and visual interest.
Folding doors were introduced to allow two of the spaces to be combined, enabling greater adaptability and supporting a range of teaching and learning configurations.
