CHARTERED ARCHITECT . CHARTERED ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGIST
EXTENSION & REDEVELOPMENT . D B DEVALL & SON, NUNEATON
The extension has created a distinctive focal point within the village centre on a site that had remained vacant for many years following the demolition of a disused petrol station. The site presented significant development challenges, including substantial environmental contamination adjacent to the former garage workshops, resulting from prolonged diesel leakage into the ground. Over a twelve-month period, the site underwent extensive remediation works carried out by specialist contractors.
The new extension provides a principal entrance and generous reception area, within which a circular stained-glass window by artist Aiden McCrae Thompson is located behind the reception desk. The scheme also includes seven additional chapels of rest, each incorporating stained-glass features positioned above bespoke altars. Supporting accommodation comprises a new mortuary, workshop, and office facilities. Following completion of the extension and occupation of the new building, the former premises were comprehensively refurbished and now include a multi-purpose function room with an adjoining conservatory.
The entrance and, in particular, the clock tower have been positively received by the local community, with both the extension and refurbishment widely regarded as a significant enhancement to the area.
