EXTENSION . CHEYLESMORE COMMUNITY CENTRE, COVENTRY
Over many years, the community centre expanded in response to its growing popularity and the increasing range of courses offered. The original building, likely dating from the 1940s, evolved incrementally as additional accommodation was required to support new activities for the surrounding community. This organic development resulted in a fragmented arrangement of extensions, with circulation routes often requiring users to pass through unrelated rooms to reach their intended destinations.
In response, we prepared a comprehensive site development plan outlining future extensions and the rationalisation of internal layouts and activities. The first phase, now completed, delivered a new principal entrance, replacing the former access point, which was poorly located, constrained in size, and only marginally compliant with disabled access requirements. The new entrance provides improved accessibility, dedicated space for pushchairs, a reception area, and a new classroom accommodating IT and art activities.
