ALAN C RILEY

DIRECTOR; PRINCIPAL CHARTERED ARCHITECT & ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGIST

Alan studied architecture part-time at De Montfort University, Leicester, earning four academic awards and a Batchelor of Arts in Architecture. He completed his Diploma at the Architectural Association in London, returning to De Montfort University for his Postgraduate Diploma in Architectural Practice. He is a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and a member of the Architectural Association. Unusually, he is also a qualified Architectural Technologist, having studied at Coventry Technical College and Coventry University, and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists. Between 1998 and 2020 he was an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Building and from 1997 to 2002, he served as a visiting tutor and critic at De Montfort University. Alan is presently a member of the RIBA Student Mentoring Team and on a panel of visiting tutors at Birmingham City University, guiding students starting out on a career in architecture. He is passionate about fostering young talent and enhancing the educational experience for aspiring architects.

ABOUT THE PRACTICE

Every project is important, regardless of size, location, or budget. The practice offers flexible involvement tailored to client needs—from planning advice to full design and site supervision. It provides comprehensive services as well as guidance on additional consultants, and uses clear communication tools like sketches or models to aid understanding. With experience in complex sites such as inner-city, listed, and conservation areas, the practice delivers bespoke, client-focused results.

Since its establishment, the practice has worked on a diverse range of projects, from small domestic works to education, healthcare, and community schemes, with extensive expertise in solving complex challenges. Led by Alan C Riley, each project benefits from hands-on design and supervision, aiming to maximise both functionality and aesthetic value while enhancing property investment.

Throughout his career, Alan has focused on evolving ideas rather than a fixed style, allowing each project to respond freely to client needs. He sees art and architecture as vital to enriching everyday life and enjoys working with clients to bring their vision to life and make a difference.

The practice has worked across the UK, from Durham to Cornwall, including our local regions of Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire and The Cotswolds, as well as on smaller projects in Europe and the Middle East.
