RESIDENTIAL FLATS . COVENTRY
Existing flats and retail units defined two sides of a square, with an office building to the west. The remaining gap site contained semi-derelict pre-cast concrete garages, which were a concern for local residents. The central area of the site was used for parking serving both existing and proposed flats. To the east, beyond the adjoining three-storey flats, lies a community open space with a pond frequented by swans and geese.
The design response was informed by solar orientation and surrounding context. Principal living spaces were positioned to the south to maximise daylight and benefit from views from the Juliet balconies. The scheme comprised eleven one and two-bedroom flats, designed with brick and complementary render detailing to integrate with the adjacent residential buildings.
