BESPOKE HOUSE . COVENTRY
The existing site is situated within a tranquil area of Coventry, characterised by an eclectic mix of residential properties, including the client’s existing bungalow. The original dwelling, thought to be constructed in the 1930s, comprised of two bedrooms, a lounge, and a kitchen. The client sought to redevelop the property to create a larger home featuring four bedrooms and expanded living spaces with views over the south-facing garden. Several conceptual sketches and models were developed, all adopting a consistent modern international style.
During a site visit, we identified the optimal orientation for the new dwelling to maximize natural sunlight and enhance the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. A raised patio was proposed to blur the boundaries between interior and exterior environments, complemented by full-width bi-fold doors. Additionally, the design incorporated a small first-floor balcony above the extended dining area, further emphasising the interplay of indoor and outdoor living. The master bedroom features high 'vaulted' ceiling and large bi-fold doors opening onto a secluded garden-facing terrace, providing a peaceful retreat for the client. The entrance is defined by a striking two-storey hall with a glazed internal balcony, creating a sense of openness and spatial continuity across both levels of the house.
